Major source texts

There are certain categories of book that provide a major source for topographical prints (and sometimes maps). These consist of early county histories and accounts of specific towns, cities or regions, surveys of particular kinds of buildings or industries, antiquarian works and more general national descriptive works. The following works are important sources of illustrations for Co Durham.

Early histories of Co Durham

Early town histories in Co Durham

Early industrial surveys of Co Durham

Architectural and antiquarian works

General surveys containing important Co Durham material
